Below you will find some additional information about Stephanie Kirby of Blue Daisy Floral Designs!
How long have you been a florist and how did you become an expert in creating wedding flowers?
I’ve been a florist for over a decade, beginning in 2002 with my first job at a floral shop & garden center. I majored in horticulture at Penn State University in State College, PA, where I took formal classes and did tons of independent study and worked at a busy local flower shop on holidays. I got completely addicted to designing with flowers! I was even on the Penn State Flower Judging Team, coaching and competing in everything from discerning flower quality to tablescape and bouquet design.
After college I took a job as a manager at Terrain at Styer’s, an outdoor living brand of Urban Outfitters. It was there that I met an engaged couple, and I was so thrilled when I was asked to design florals for their wedding. That opportunity set me down the path of becoming the owner of The Blue Daisy, designing for weddings full time. The success of that first wedding built my confidence and I’ve never looked back!
I’ve built my expertise by researching, asking questions, studying under veteran florists across the country, and by collaborating with an international network of florist through Chapel Designers. I’ve also been brave enough to try a new technique even when I wasn’t sure of the process, which always results in learning. I’m never afraid to try something new!
