Stephanie Kirby is the owner and Creative Director at The Blue Daisy Floral Designs. She was born and raised in Irwin, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where she grew to love plants and flowers while spending spring afternoons in garden centers with her mom. As she grew older she began using her mom’s garden as a source for fresh flowers and was constantly snipping blooms and making arrangements. Stephanie would eventually turn this love into her major at Penn State University and career with 20 years of experience in floral design and horticulture. It is her greatest pleasure to pass this passion on to her clients and she strives to make every experience a positive and gratifying one.
Her favorite designing to do is the bridal bouquet, however the part of her job she most loves is connecting flowers and people. There is no greater honor than to make someone feel happiness and love when they receive flowers.
Stephanie lives in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with her loving and ever-supportive husband, Patrick, their two young daughters, and their derpy pit bull. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, napping outside, and is always planning to re-decorate something.
We asked our fearless leader a few questions to get to know her better, as well as a few frequently asked questions.
I love that our team genuinely cares about our clients and our mission and it really comes through in our work and communication. But my most favorite thing about The Blue Daisy team is how everyone has a different personality and perspective, but we all jive and get along. Each team member contributes something special. We can freely share ideas and opinions and together we make magic happen!
Focusing! There are always a million different tasks and projects going on, bills to be paid, people to touch base with, recipes to write, etc. As an entrepreneur, I wear a lot of hats. Though my team definitely helps to alleviate this. I can hand them a project and they make it happen!
When I was transferring to Penn State from The Catholic University of America, my suite-mate at CUA told me that if I was going to study horticulture, I would have to make her a blue daisy; her favorite color is blue and her favorite flowers are daisies and blue daisies do not exist in nature. I created a Blue Daisy for her!
Tulips! They are rebels. They do what they want, when they want, how they want, and they do it with style. My husband bought me red tulips for our very first Valentine’s Day so red has a soft spot with me (and why they are almost always in our Valentine’s Day selection!)
Thor. Thor is our 9(ish) year old pitbull. He is the friendliest, snuggliest boy you’ll ever meet. He’s a 68 lb. lap dog, basically. He snores. He refuses to sit on the couch without a blanket under him, and if you’re in his chair, he’ll either stare you down until you move or just simply sit on you. He’s the best.
American Graffiti. A little-known, oldie but goodie. Cool old cars (a weak spot of mine), awesome music, and just light-hearted fun. We just donated the DVD to the library because we don’t have a DVD player anymore so if you want to see it, check it out at the Northland Public Library!
